MCMA's COVID-19 Risk Management
Posted: March 13, 2020
Dear MCMA Families,
As you know, COVID-19 is impacting facets of daily life across our country and around the world. As stewards of your family’s physical and mental well-being, we take an especially keen interest to ensure we are doing all we can to help manage its spread and mitigate risk in the Taekwondo community. With this in mind, we wanted to reach out and share the actions we are taking to keep our students, their families, and our staff healthy.
First please know that the health and safety of our community is not only our top priority but has always been an essential part of our organization. We are committed to our members and want to advise you of the tangible and proactive steps we normally take and have added given the current health situation.
As of now we will remain open for all regular classes.
To ensure sanitary and thoroughly disinfected training and seating areas, please note the following:
- We use anti-bacterial and antiviral disinfectants to clean our mats and floors each day.
- All training equipment and common areas, including bathrooms, door handles, seating, kicking targets, etc.., are disinfected between every class.
- Instructors and staff are washing and using hand sanitizer all throughout the classes.
- We have hand sanitizer and anti-bacterial/anti-viral soaps available to all our families.
- In lieu of high-fives or fist bumps we will be cheering louder and bowing to minimize contact.
We also encourage students and others to follow some simple guidelines:
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
- If soap and water are not available, use alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
- Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue, throw it away, and sanitize your hands.
- If you are feeling ill, please stay home until you are symptom free for at least 24 hours.
Moving forward, we know some of you may forego attending Taekwondo for a short period of time as a social distancing precaution. We understand and respect that decision. In lieu of in-person training, we will begin publishing online videos and study materials that may be used to keep up with your martial arts practice at home. More information about online resources will be released shortly.
As of now, health professionals are advising to avoid gatherings of more than 100 individuals. With our scheduling, class sizes, and preventative cleaning between classes we are well below that margin. As always, we will closely monitor the situation and take guidance from local and national officials.
If MCMA locations must close due to health and safety concerns, we want to make sure that our members also have options regarding their membership. Parents and students may choose from the following options to make up for time during which MCMA is closed or students voluntarily miss class:
- An extended time credit may be added to your membership for time missed.
- 1 on 1 Private Lessons with your favorite instructor to get caught back up.
- Credit for items at MCMA such as Summer Camps, Testing Fees, etc.
We are in this together and by working together we can create the best possible situation for everyone.
Sincerely,
Grand Master Chang & MCMA Staff
